Traveling to Danum Valley
January 9th, 2011 by admin
We had a lovely stay with Borneo Rainforest Lodge which features all the comfort needed and more at their luxury Danum Valley Resort. After guided walks in the rainforest, it was nice to soak in the pool and enjoy the delicious dinners.
The Danum valley is located 70 km West of Lahad Datu (Sabah’s fourth largest town). The valley is characterized by a dense virgin forest measuring up to 43,800 ha. It has been recognized as one of the world’s most complex ecosystems, housing a vast lush tropical lowland forest with intense biodiversity ranging from plants to animals. Mousedeer, Sumatran rhinoceros, Orang Utans and the beautiful clouded leopard are just but a few mammals.
Tourists are treated to a one-of –a-kind ecological experience where they get to enjoy the hot and humid jungle, packed with tall tropical trees, whirling lianas, purple orchids and swaying epiphytes. The valley is found within the reaches of the second largest river, Segama and its tributaries. Danum exhibits a hilly terrain of which the highest altitude is Mount Danum (1093 m) high.
