Disney’s newest cruise ship, the Disney Dream, is scheduled to cruise to the Bahamas from Port Canaveral, Florida on January 26, 2011. The ship includes a water coaster, “virtual potholes” where characters can swim or float by as they greet guests and several interactive activities to entertain guests of all ages. The Disney Dream is a 4,000-passenger ship that will cater primarily to the family cruise market and include several Disney movie-themed restaurants, clubs for tween.
The Disney Dream is the third ship in the Disney Cruise Line fleet and boasts 14 towering decks, 1,250 staterooms and a length of 1,115 feet. Disney designed this liner with the same classic style of its other two ships, but is distinguished by state-of-the-art technology, interactive games and its AquaDuck, the first water coaster at sea.
Construction of the Disney Dream began in March 2009, and was designed to reflect the glamour and style of the golden age of cruising during the 1930s, reports DisneyCruise.com. Some of the key features of this new ship include digital 3-D movies, youth clubs with interactive games and themed group party spaces, three sparkling pools (including one just for adults), live music and dancing in The District, and interactive activities for the entire family throughout their journey. It’s not a Disney event without fireworks and each night finishes with a dazzling pyrotechnic show at sea and guests can meet Disney characters or watch Broadway-style shows with Mickey and the gang.
The Disney Dream is approximately 40 percent larger than the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder, and about two decks taller than its sister ships. Guests can book 3-night, 4-night or 5-night Bahamian cruises, with the first itinerary slated for departure in January 2011. Disney is also offering pre- and post-cruise hotel packages at the Disney World Resort in Orlando.
