The Costa Deliziosa, the latest ship in the fleet of Costa Cruises and named Europe’s favorite cruise line, has successfully completed its sea trials and is ready for delivery on January 29, 2010. The inauguration for this ship is scheduled to take place in Dubai on February 23, 2010 as part of the ship’s Grand Maiden Cruise. The Grand Maiden Cruise is scheduled to depart on February 5 from Sanova, and will mark the first time that the cruise ship will be named in an Arabian city.

The Costa Deliziosa was set to sail at a maximum speed of 40 kilometers per hour for an eight hour non-stop endurance test, and the route included a crash stop, and hourly testing of the ship’s automatic control systems. A blackout test was also completed successfully, ensuring that the all of the ship’s control equipment could be shut down and reactivated automatically.

The building and launch of the Costa Deliziosa took place at the Fincantieri Marghera shipyard in Venice and will join other ships as part of the Italian Company’s fleet expansion program. This program is currently the largest of its kind in the world, and five additional ships are expected to enter service this year and in 2012. The ship is designed with specialty features that ensure an unparalleled luxury cruise experience.

Inside, the ship is designed with marble and granite floors and countertops, and stucco has been applied to several walls using a special “spatolato veneiano” technique. Several fine works of art and sculptures are featured in the ship’s main atrium. Other features include a 4D cinema, a golf simulator, a Grand Prix driving simulator, a spa and wellness center, a fitness circuit and a dedicated “PlayStation World” outfitted with PlayStation 3 consoles. Guests can also enjoy deluxe hotel-like amenities in their cabins and choose from a varied selection of gourmet dining options.
