The Low Down

The Four Seasons George V hotel is to Paris what the Waldorf Astoria is to New York or the Ritz is to London-it is simply the place to stay and be seen. The hotel was built in 1928 and converted to a Four Seasons hotel in 1999 following a two-year 5 million renovation. The original Art Deco detailing, 17th-century tapestries and 18th-century Florentine chandeliers have been restored and adorn the lobby. Marble columns and floors, museum pieces and huge fresh flower arrangements dominate the public areas. The refurbished state-of-the-art landmark hotel is located in the most fashionable quarter of Paris, steps from the Champs-Élysées and a short walk to the Arc de Triomphe, Place de la Concorde and the Eiffel Tower.

Sweet Suites

The property spans 408,603 square feet and houses 186 guest rooms and 59 suites within eight stories. Rooms, in cool and comforting pale green and silver décor, are spacious yet intimate with plush sofas, a dining table, flat screen televisions and large walk-in closets. Bathrooms feature huge showers, marble fittings and his and her sinks. Many have private balconies facing either the Eiffel Tower or the gardens.

Staying in one of George V’s rooms is like sleeping at the Louvre. Whether you are in one of the executive suites, a one-bedroom suite, a Presidential or Royal suite or a regular room, you will be surrounded by museum pieces that in many cases are priceless.

The Perks

Equally beautiful is the spa, decorated in muted colors, 18th-century prints, trompe l’oeil murals of the gardens of Versailles and bowls of fresh flower displays. In addition to an indoor 29-foot pool, there are nine treatment rooms, a whirlpool Jacuzzi, steam rooms, a sauna, two private hairdressing suites and a gym with a full range of exercise and cardiovascular equipment. The emphasis is on massage and skincare, with products by Decleor and Carita. For guests with children, the hotel offers welcome amenities for smaller guests: free cribs and babysitting services.

The Eats

The hotel’s three-star Michelin restaurant, Le Cinq, provides culinary masterpieces that rate among the best in the gastronomic capital. Designed by French architect Pierr-Yves Rochon to resemble a French castle, the restaurant has high ceilings and majestic décor within a gray and pale pink dining room with gold inlays. Guests need both an empty stomach and deep pockets to dine at Le Cinq. An extensive kitchen staff with 115 cooks, seven apprentices, 15 sous-chefs and 13 sommeliers, attends to the 50-seat dining salon. Favorite dishes from the seasonal menu include roast pigeon with peppermint and Sauternes, farm-raised veal sweatbreads and Normandy scallops with celeriac-black truffle mousseline.

The hotel offers several package deals. The Bed and Breakfast bundle includes a full American breakfast for two adults at La Cinq restaurant or via in-room dining, offered from May 11, 2010 through October 31, 2010 from 850 Euro per night.
