Mobile applications that allow travelers to confirm flights, choose their seats and keep up-to-date on their flight status are becoming more attractive to all types of travelers, according to industry experts. Results of a recent survey conducted by Sabre Travel Network ®, the world’s leading provider of high-performance solutions for the travel industry, reports that many corporate and leisure travelers are now using smartphone devices to keep track of travel plans.
According to Greg Webb, chief marketing officer of Sabre Holdings, “Smart phones are becoming a traveler’s preferred tool for managing post-booking activities and getting relevant information…this trend has seemingly penetrated all ages across all continents, highlighting the tremendous opportunity for travel agencies and suppliers to leverage mobile solutions to demonstrate value to their customers and creatively reach target audiences.”
Statistics show that Europeans are quicker to adopt new features and applications than Americans, and many count on their mobile devices to complete hotel check-ins, book their flights using online travel sites, and to confirm their reservations. In some cases, travelers are also more responsive to advertising with free travel applications. Many people prefer to use free apps that are bundled with advertising, and advertisers now have an entirely new marketing channel to tap into.
Sabre Holdings has launched its own mobile application called TripCase(SM) designed specifically for iPhone and Blackberry users. The application has been named ‘Best Travel App’ by Business Week, and is a free application that provides flight updates, access to the itinerary in one click, and the ability to share a travel log with friends, family and colleagues. The application also allows travelers to add their own hotel information, receive important trip messages with the Push messaging feature, and take notes during their trip within a few clicks. More information about the TripCase application can be found online.
